SEN Transition

We recognise that transitions can be difficult for a child with SEND and take steps to ensure that any transition is as smooth as possible.

How we will support children with SEND starting our school:

We liaise directly with parents/carers as well as previous nurseries and settings to ensure that we fully understand the needs of the children and are able to fully support them.

Families are encouraged to visit school for a look around and to meet staff before they start. We request the relevant paperwork from the previous school/nursery/setting to ensure a smooth transition between schools.

How we will support children with SEND when they are moving on to another class or leaving this school:

We monitor carefully transfer of SEND pupils both within school and during the transfer to secondary school. Being a small school information is easily transferred between teachers. With regards to secondary transition we have a transition worker, plus we liaise with SEND departments at the parents’ choice of secondary. This tends to be done in advance of other pupils, but ensures that both pupils and parents are confident in their choices. Additional transition opportunities are offered as necessary.Children spend time at their new school before leaving permanently.

Our SENCO will contact the SENCO of the new school to discuss any specific needs and pass on strategies for supporting the child to ensure stability and consistency for the child.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
