Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website, from the pupils, staff and governors, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you. We hope that you find this website a useful source of information and insight about our friendly and busy school, please get in touch if you would like to come for a look around to see our amazing provision for yourself.
We are a smaller than average, semi-rural primary school situated in the heart of Fishburn village in County Durham. We are very proud of our school’s welcoming, community atmosphere and the way we nurture the achievements of each and every child. We value highly academic learning but we also know how important it is that children receive a broad and balanced education with life skills and experience being taught alongside traditional subjects. We aim for all of our children to feel part of our ‘Fishburn Family’ and to grow in confidence, develop a sense of responsibility and achieve their own personal goals.
We enjoy a spacious site where children are able to explore and learn. For instance we have our very own adventure forest, outdoor classroom, fire pit, bird hide and allotment which we make use of all year round. We also have light and spacious classrooms and first-class play facilities, a large playing field, which the children can use at break times and lunch times (weather dependent), two playgrounds and a football pitch. We consider ourselves to be very fortunate in terms of the quality of our outdoor provision.
Recently, we have opened our own Pre-school provision and we welcome children from as young as 2. This gives our families and their children opportunities for learning and support from an early age. Our Pre-school provision is catered specifically to the needs of our children and is situated in our own dedicated area of school with access to extensive outdoor spaces. Opportunities for the youngest children in school to access elements of wider school life are built in as and when the children are ready and they are able to spend time with the children in our nursery provision too. If you are looking for a funded or private space for your 2 year old then look no further, please get in touch with the office and we will be happy to discuss your requirements.
We also offer full wraparound care with breakfast club from 7:30 on a morning and After School Club available until 5:30 on an evening. Both of these provisions are ran by dedicated staff in dedicated areas of school and are a popular choice for our families.
Our school is the exciting and wonderful place it is due to our children who are our best and most effective ambassadors, but also to our amazing and dedicated staff team. Fishburn staff are committed to providing the best possible education to every child in our care, we pride ourselves on being fully inclusive and have the ability to cater for any one who wishes to be part of our ‘Fishburn Family’. To that end, we have a dedicated sensory room and several quiet and calm spaces for children who may need to make use of this.
As a school community we firmly believe that everyone can achieve their best and are committed to our ‘you can do it!’ ethos. We aim to keep you well informed about activities and events in the school so that you can share these experiences with your children. It is important children feel that their positive learning experience in school is reinforced at home and we aim to work in close partnership with you to achieve this. Please find details of our school activities under ‘Parents’ Information’, including weekly newsletters. Our Faceboook page is also updated on a daily basis and will give you a sense of what is happening in our lovely school.
If you are a parent or carer considering sending your child to our fantastic school, I encourage you to explore this site and to get in touch with us so that you can see what Fishburn has to offer your child – we will be delighted to arrange a visit!
