OFSTED 2019
Fishburn Primary received an OFSTED visit in June 2018 and a follow up visit 9 months later in May 2019. Between that time school has been working with Durham County Council to improve several key areas. We have had visits from support staff and also Durham County Council School Inspectors who have been in lessons and observed pupils’ work.
Although by the end of KS 2 our pupils achieve above national averages and are above Government floor targets, the focus has moved towards end of KS1, year 1 phonics and end of EYFS. Many of our pupils only stay with us a short time. OFSTED agreed with school and the local authority that we needed to look at achievement in Phonics and KS 1 in particular and even though pupils who spend their whole time with us make good progress with us, it was felt that more focus needed to be directed on raising standards of pupils at five to seven years old, no matter how long they spend at our school.
For this reason school has been told it ‘Requires Improvement.’ The report highlights many good features of school (please take time to read it all) , this also means that Governors will continue to work with Durham County Council over the next couple of years. We are able to access extra funded support during this time period and have initiated membership of the regional English Hub.
Our report can be found here, if you would prefer a printed copy please contact school and we would be happy to forward you a printed version. Please telephone: 01740 620162
