Mr Cornell:
Miss Nodding:
We have a SUPER EXCITING year ahead of us filled with lots of learning and fun experiences. This year, we are going on a fabulous learning journey, and we will thoroughly enjoy the opportunities along the way in our newly designed EYFS classrooms.
Autumn 1 – All About Me
We will be listening to and reading stories ‘All About Me’ and learn how to recognise and form the letters to write our own names. We will be listening to and a reading lots of new books like ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ and ‘Funnybones’ to learn ‘All About Me’. We will be learning new numbers and counting lots both indoors and outdoors in the sun, rain, wind, and snow, so don’t; forget your waterproofs! We will be recognising and celebrating different events throughout the year like family birthdays, past and present. We will also be looking at our local community and the people within it. We have an amazing creative area in our new classroom and lots of creative learning will take place here exploring colour, making representations of yourself by painting and drawing self-portraits or even creating a junk model of yourself using recycled materials!
Autumn 2 – Exploring Autumn & Winter
This topic is all about the seasons Autumn and Winter. We will be outside observing and experiencing the change in weather and celebrate some exciting times that happen during these seasons like Class birthdays, Bonfire Night, Diwali, and CHRISTMAS! As you can imagine, this half term is going to be even more creative and fun from the previous term, particularly outdoors where we will be investigating how water freezes, turns into ice and melts during seasonal change. We will be counting and looking at the sequence of numbers and 2D shape. Online we will be learning with Smarty the e-safety penguin learning about keeping safe when we use technology at school and at home.
Spring 1 – Once Upon a Time
This term is focussed on traditional tales. We all have our own favourite traditional tale or fairy-tale so we can share these fabulous tales to all our friends in class. There is so much to learn from these tales, and you will have lots of opportunities to read aloud and perform these as well as write about them in your schoolbooks. The home area and classroom will look very interesting this half term as we could all work together to transform it into a fairy-tale setting! How amazing would that be to learn in a castle or maybe a jungle? We also have a range of other areas available in the continuous provision like; sand, water, construction, transient art, home area and much more so let’s be super creative and see what we can achieve!
Spring 2 – Spring has Sprung
We all love Spring as it is the time of year where we can watch things grow. We are going to be planting seeds around school, in pots and wait for it…… we are going to grow out very own SUNFLOWERS! Sunflowers grow SO tall; we could have a competition to see whose Sunflowers grows the tallest! Pre-school and Reception are also going to join in with this, so our school is going to be filled with bright yellow sunflowers! We are going to be reading stories like ‘What the Ladybird Heard’, and ‘Monkey Puzzle’ with a huge focus on our listening skills to recall information from these stories and you can act these out in the outdoor provision surrounding yourself with our amazing sunflowers. We will also be looking at Life Cycles, learn parts of the flower and how they grow. We could even get stuck into our outdoor garden centre AND our school allotment and if that isn’t enough, we hope to be able to hatch our own chicks! (cheep cheep!).
Summer 1 – We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
This half term takes a little turn to focus on pets, animals, and wild animals and this is when we can use the iPad and the computers in the ICT suite to do lots of research on wild animals like The Grizzly Bear and some smaller animals and insects like minibeasts and their habitats. We will be reading the ‘The Crunching Munching Caterpillar’ and ‘The Bad-Tempered Ladybird’. To make it super exciting and even more creative, we could build our very own class Caterpillar! We will continue to celebrate our class birthdays and can sing ‘Happy Birthday’ in your best singing voice!
Summer 2 – A Pirates Life for Me
‘A Pirates Life for ME’ will be our final topic of this academic year and it will be an amazing one too! We can listen to some fabulous stories like ‘Pirates Love Underpants’, ‘The Singing Mermaid’ and look at some non-fiction texts about Oceans and creatures that live under the sea. There will be some amazing junk models made this term, where we can build our own swords, hats and even get dressed up as A PIRATE! I also can’t wait to see lots of pirate paintings and 3D models of sea life. I think we could make a giant Octopus and scare Miss Ferguson with it when she comes down to visit us! But we won’t scare her so soon, we can maybe scare her with the Octopus after we’ve had a trip to the beach or a visit to an Aquarium.
This is just a snippet of what you will learn this year and I hope you’re all excited to learn and experience what’s to come! There is a possibility where topics and some activities may transpose to something else as this curriculum is planned with subject to change to the interests or you, The Explorers!
