Dear Parents and children,
I am so proud of how you have all adapted to being in school so far this academic year. You are all amazing and should be SO incredibly proud of yourselves!
We have made some adjustments to school so that we can continue to welcome you back under the most up to date government guidance. Please look through the documents on our website so that you know what to expect. If you have any questions as always just get in touch.
At the start of September we focused our initial return around the following principles. We started to move to more formal teaching of the curriculum again once we felt everyone was settled, but we recognise that things at the moment are still far from normal and we will continue to adapt to these changes throughout this academic year.
Re-engaging:
We are very aware that our children will need some time to re-engage with school. In September 2020, they have not been with us for a prolonged period of time and they needed some support, guidance and time to get used to being back with us again. We know that when you are all back with us, it will take some time to re-establish relationships, routines, structures and expectations We intend to do this in a slow, pastoral way where Personal, Social and Health education and well being will be the priority for us all. We will communicate clearly and as often as we can with you all so that you have a good understanding of how your child is settling back into a school environment.
Review:
Our staff will then take some time to review with the children what they have completed during their time at home, they will see how much as been retained and covered and what needs to be retaught. They will also ensure that children’s knowledge of basic skills in english and maths have been reviewed and so we will have an idea of how to move learning forward.
Recover:
Our teachers will then plan for and deliver lessons that support our children to recover from the lost learning time of the last few months. We will make this as interactive and engaging as we can. We will also as far as possible ensure links with the wider curriculum encompassing science, history, geography and Art as much as possible.
Remote learning is very much a feature of our current school life and we are viewing this as an extension of our classrooms. Remote education will be immediately available whenever the need arises and further information about this is available on this website and also directly from school.
All that remains to say is that please have a look in the following sections of the website – they may answer any questions you have.
If you need anything at all then please get in touch with the school office.
Stay safe,
Miss Ferguson.
